Breedin lahk Rabbits - FHWA

The latest issue of “Highway Statistics 1997” proves it – thairm rural folks in Mississippi is juss breedin lahk rabbits. FHWA reports there are 13,620,000 of em, which led FHWA to calculate that they don’t do that much travelin – only 2,118 vehicle-miles-traveled/capita. The US average is 8939. But 13.6m?

We’d never heard before that the Ole Miss was one of those 8-digit population states so we looked in a previous issue of the trusty “Highway Statistics” and found that two years ago there were only 1,428,000 rural folks there.

Oh my, they’ve really been working at it since. Population density in MS has shot up too according to FHWA - from 57/sq mi to 317/sq mi in just two years. The Javanese can’t match that, I’ll bet.

But Univ MD ecos dept friend, the late-Julian Simon would have loved this one – the FHWA statisticians find per capita income in MS has risen nicely ($15,707 to $17,471) despite this spectacular fecundity.

Take that ya greens!
