There’s a lot of road rage over HOV lanes around the country — in Orange Co CA, on Long Is NY, in Morris Co NJ... People are angry about the waste of empty HOV lanes, and they think their congestion would be relieved if only the HOVLs were “opened” to general traffic. Politicians are begining to respond. HOVLs could tumble fast. Many of us think the better solution for most of the troubled HOVLs is toll buy-in — to give people an option to buy a ride past the congestion. (See below) If Maine decides it doesn’t want to remain a backwoods state then studies of an East-West toll system will mature into real plans. (right) Also the latest on 91-X, problems at MFS, a small resort toll bridge in Missouri, the defeat of anti-toll moves in Mass, a new study on value of commuter time saved, and the Polk a new l’il toll road opens east of Tampa FL. We couldn’t fit a story on the OH Bulter pike. It’s a goer.
