Reports New York’s Tri-State Transp Campaign: “Within LITP (Long Island Transp Plan), the Campaign and other reformers have seen some progress. Reducing vehicle miles of travel (VMT) has moved to the top of the performance measure list.” (TSTC News May 98)

So the less travel there is the more successful is the transport system, by the logic of these anti-roadies, who apparently think themselves on top in Long Island NY. These guys measure success by how little road travel there is.

The mode fascists are saying in effect: “We oppose every new project for relieving road congestion and for expanding road capacity, support every measure to tax and penalize motorists. It is the proper role of government to take from motorists and to give to transit. One day we will close roads because that, after all, is the best way to reduce the role of the killer car....Wait now, we don’t quite want to say that. That might catch the attention of all those yobbos out there in love with their cars, who might think we are saying: ‘You Vil Uze der Trane or You Vil Uze der Biczycle. Or You Muss Valk.’ ”
