By relying on cars to get around, our roadways become congested, adding stress to our lives. Building bigger roads seems like the obvious answer, but its an expensive, short-term fix (Shades of heroin - TRnl). Increasing capacity encourages driving, adds pollution to the air, creates congestion and puts pressure on officials to build even bigger roads at taxpayer expense. Adding lanes of traffic subtracts from our quality of life as we pave over recreational sites, park land and other open spaces in our neighborhoods. (How can we justify any new road building? - TRnl) What we need are real transp choices that preserve the livability of our communities while reducing our tax burden (Itd be great to hear of a single transit project in US history that has reduced the tax burden - TRnl). Citizens (good guy activists - TRnl) have the power to create that choice. Federal transp laws give local communities and states flexibility, authority and funding to design transp systems that meet their diverse needs. Citizens can choose transp solutions (so long as they are non-auto solutions - TRnl) and amenities that are convenient, safe, healthy, and yes, beautiful (My car was gorgeous when she was young - TRnl). This new-found empowerment, however, can sometimes prove daunting for communities (where people are pro-road they are obviously daunted in the thinking of such transp progressives - TRnl) . Thats where Transp Partners lends a hand (with a US taxpayer handout - TRnl)
