“GM: You’re as evil as Philip Morris”

The nannies are tut-tutting against the automobile. So why not stigmatize the use of a car like smoking cigaretttes, which suggests the need for punitive car taxes, bans on ads, and a drumbeat of governmental denunciations, edicts and restrictions. And “NO MORE HIGHWAYS.”

It is happening. The suggestion is made in an extended diatribe just out:

“While the cigarette wrapper bears a warning, the cars that speed us to illness and mortality are unadorned...How do auto companies differ from the tobacco industry? For ‘smoking’ substitute ‘driving’ and you could apply the surgeon-general’s sticker ‘Driving causes lung cancer, heart disease, emphysema, and may complicate pregnancy’ on the windshield.”
