Toll road operators, electronic toll equipment suppliers and a large commercial complex in southern California are collaborating in a demonstration of a new application for electronic toll transponders (e-tags.) A group of 40 commuters who work each day at the South Coast Plaza, a complex of offices and shops in Costa Mesa CA and who already have FasTrak e-tags for riding the toll roads of Orange County are using them to drive uninterrupted into their parking places in the Imperial Bank building.

The project involves close collaboration between Lockheed Martin IMS which manages customer service centers and e-tolling for the county toll road authority the Tranportation Corridors Agency, TCA itself, MFS Network Technologies supplier of the e-toll equipment, and the Offices Of South Coast Plaza where the test is being conducted. The Plaza hopes to open up the system to allow any motorist with a FasTrak tag to use it for parking charges or entry rights and the TCA which has rights to the use of the tags over a large area of Orange county sees major benefits for its customers and itself if the e-tags are developed as payment and control devices for parking lots and buildings all over the county.
