Traffic on TX183A over plan
Traffic on the new TX183A tollroad northwest of Austin is looking strong, Through April when there was no toll traffic was the measured as the equivalent of 100k transactions per day.
On May 1 cash toll collection began and transactions dropped to around 70k consisting of 20k stopping to pay cash plus 50k now going free with TxTag transponders. In June those with TxTag transponders will be charged half toll, and from July 1 they will be paying the real toll of 90% of the cash toll.
If 60% stay with the tollroad with full tolling in effect they'll be running over 40k/day - as compared with the beginning forecast of 24.6k/day.
The free TX183 runs parallel to the tollroad just a few blocks west.
183A is the first tollroad of the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority (CTRMA). It runs 18.7km from Lakeline Mall in north Austin to the South San Gabriel River where it merges back into the free TX183.
The new tollroad takes through traffic out of the main street of Cedar Park and Leander. For now only the southern half is tolled, the northern half consisting of surface frontage roads with a reservation for the future toll lanes in the center.
