Efkon the Graz, Austria-based toll systems company recently bought Fenrits, the Norway-based electronic toll equipment supplier which specializes in CEN 278 passive 5.8Ghz European standard gear, also sold in Asia, South America and Australia. They have a new low-power and compact ASIC or custom chip which they plan to offer in their transponders to extend battery life.
The buy of Fenrits gives Efkon a range of capability comparable with the other leading European toll systems company Kapsch, also based in Austria (in Vienna) which bought Sweden-based Combitech back in 2000. Combitech originated as spinoff of the transponder side of Philips and was associated with Saab for some years.
Efkon has just put Joseph Grassauer one of its senior managers into Fenrits as CEO.
